Description

The instrument is a type of drum with a membrane made of skin on the upper part. The shell is long, narrow and made of bamboo. The membrane is tied to the shell through a structure made of various braided strands of junk. Around all the shell there are straight line paintings in dark colors. The sounds produced by the instrument have undetermined pitch. To play the musician places the dogdog on the arm tuck and with one of his hands he hits the membrane.

Dogdog is the name of an instrument, but also the name of a set of long cylindrical drums, with a single membrane and of different sizes. These sets accompany the Reog, Indonesian popular manifestation combining music, dances, story telling and games.
